*Call to Worship:

Leader:    Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song.

People:   Rejoice and be glad, for the Lord reigns.

Leader:    Praise God with dance.

People:   Praise God with songs of adoration.

Leader:    For God lifts up the lowly and casts down the mighty.

People:   Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song.

Leader:    Let us pray.

ALL: God of our forbearers, you turn our world upside down. You teach us that neither wealth, nor social status, nor reputation can lead us to life. You remind us to focus on your kingdom, where the poor, the hungry, the sorrowful, and those persecuted for the gospel receive your blessing. Help us follow the example of the saints, that we may receive our glorious inheritance, by living as Christ taught us to live.  Amen

Hymn: “Be Thou My Vision”

Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;

naught be all else to me, save that thou art.

Thou my best thought, by day or by night,

waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.

Be thou my wisdom, and thou my true word;

I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord;

thou and thou only, first in my heart,

great God of heaven, my treasure thou art.

Great God of heaven, my victory won,

may I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heaven’s Sun!

Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,

still be my vision, O Ruler of all.

PROCLAMATION OF THE WORD

Words of Assurance

In Christ, we receive a glorious inheritance and God’s redeeming grace.

Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we are sealed with the saints in holy love.

Thanks be to God! Amen.

*Gospel Reading: Luke 19:1-10

He entered Jericho and was passing through it. A man was there named Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was rich. He was trying to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was short in stature. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to see him, because he was going to pass that way. When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down; for I must stay at your house today.” So he hurried down and was happy to welcome him. All who saw it began to grumble and said, “He has gone to be the guest of one who is a sinner.” Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, “Look, half of my possessions, Lord, I will give to the poor; and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will pay back four times as much.” Then Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he too is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek out and to save the lost.”

Leader:    This is the Word of God for the people of God

People:   Thanks be to God.

Sermon: “Faith to Change” 2 Thessalonians 1:1-4, 11-12

Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy,

To the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

We must always give thanks to God for you, brothers and sisters, as is right, because your faith is growing abundantly, and the love of everyone of you for one another is increasing. Therefore we ourselves boast of you among the churches of God for your steadfastness and faith during all your persecutions and the afflictions that you are enduring.

 11 To this end we always pray for you, asking that our God will make you worthy of his call and will fulfill by his power every good resolve and work of faith, 12 so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

RESPONSE TO THE WORD

Prayers of the People:  Joys and concerns

   Silent Prayer, Pastoral Prayer

 THE SACRAMENTS OF

HOLY COMMUNION

Invitation, Prayer of Confession and Pardon:

 Christ our Lord invites to his table

       all who love him,

who earnestly repent of their sin

and seek to live in peace with one another.

Therefore, let us confess our sin before God

and one another.

Merciful God,

we confess that we have not loved you

with our whole hearts.

We have failed to be an obedient church.

We have not done your will,

we have broken your law,

we have rebelled against your love,

we have not loved our neighbors,

and we have not heard the cry of the needy.

Forgive us, we pray.

Free us for joyful obedience,

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Hear the good news:

Christ died for us while we were yet sinners;

that proves God's love toward us.

In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven!

In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.

Glory to God. Amen

The Great Thanksgiving

     The Lord be with you

And also with you.

Lift up your hearts

We lift them up to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God

It is right to give our thanks and praise.

It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Alpha and Omega, beginning and ending of all creation.

In the days of Isaiah, you promised to lead all the nations to your holy mountain, and swallow up death forever. You have revealed the coming of a new heaven and new earth, in which every tear will be wiped from our eyes, and all will feast at your heavenly banquet.

And so, with your saints now on earth and all the company of heaven we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord,

God of power and might,

heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he who comes

in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest.

Holy are you, and holy is your Son Jesus Christ.

When he raised Lazarus from the grave, he showed us all your glory, giving thanks only to you and praising your name.

On the night in which he gave himself up for us, he took bread, gave thanks to you, broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said:

"Take, eat; this my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me."

This day we gather around the table with a great cloud of the saints, those who have gone before us, those that we share in communion with today and those who are yet to come, to once again remember His body that was given for us.

When the supper was over, he took the cup, gave thanks to you, gave it to his disciples, and said:

"Drink from this all of you;

this is my blood of the new covenant,

poured out for you and for many

for the forgiveness of sins.

Do this, as often as you drink it

in remembrance of me."

And so,

in remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus Christ, we offer ourselves along with all the saints of your church in praise and thanksgiving as a holy and living sacrifice, in union with Christ's offering for us, as we proclaim the mystery of faith

Christ has died;

Christ is risen;

Christ will come again.

Pour out your Holy Spirit on us gathered here, and on these gifts of bread and wine.

Make them be for us the body and blood of Christ, that we may become one with Christ, one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world, until all things are made new.

As we share in the body of Christ and the cup of salvation, let us also share in the legacy and memory of those saints who lives are a part of the Kingdom of God, both here and in heaven.

All the Unnamed Saints

Alpha and Omega, Beginning and Ending, Spirit of new beginnings, we praise your holy, eternal name. Amen

And now with the confidence of children of God, let us pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed by thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever.

Amen

Sharing of the Cup and Loaf

Moment of Prayer and Meditation

Prayer of Thanks

Eternal God, we give you thanks

for this holy mystery

in which you have given yourself to us.

Grant that we may go into the world

in the strength of your Spirit,

to give ourselves to others,

in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen

SENDING FORTH

Hymn: “When We All Get to Heaven”

Sing the wondrous love of Jesus,

sing his mercy and his grace.

In the mansions bright and blessed

he’ll prepare for us a place.

When we all get to heaven,

what a day of rejoicing that will be!

When we all see Jesus,

we’ll sing and shout the victory!

While we walk the pilgrim pathway,

clouds will overspread the sky;

but when traveling days are over,

not a shadow, not a sigh.

When we all get to heaven,

what a day of rejoicing that will be!

When we all see Jesus,

we’ll sing and shout the victory!

Let us then be true and faithful,

trusting, serving every day;

just one glimpse of him in glory

will the toils of life repay.

When we all get to heaven,

what a day of rejoicing that will be!

When we all see Jesus,

we’ll sing and shout the victory!

Onward to the prize before us!

Soon his beauty we’ll behold;

soon the pearly gates will open;

we shall tread the streets of gold.

When we all get to heaven,

what a day of rejoicing that will be!

When we all see Jesus,

we’ll sing and shout the victory!

Benediction

Hymn: “Go Now In Peace”

Go now in peace, Never be afraid.

God will go with you each hour of every day.

Go now in faith, stead-fast, strong and true.

Know He will guide you in all you do.

Go now in love, and show you believe.

Reach out to others so all the world can see.

God will be there watching from above.

Go now in peace, in faith, and in love.

    Amen! Amen! Amen!
